About
Gary Cup-Choy: Owner and Specialist
Born and raised in Los Angeles and of Chinese-Hawaiian-Mexican descent, Gary is owner of Kekoa Strength Training (Kekoa is the Hawaiian word for the brave one). With over 30 years of life-experience in Martial Arts and Weight Training, Gary envisioned a dream of a multi-training business stemming from his unique background that would help individuals transform their bodies through a Kekoa approach to training. Kekoa teachings develop warriors of peace venerated for their discipline, knowledge, cunningness, and righteousness leading to a perfect balance of body, mind, and spirit.
Deriving from a deep respect for Shaolin Buddhist monks, at age 9, Gary began training in the Martial Art of Kung Fu San Soo, studying under Master Al Hinojosa and Grandmaster Jimmy H. Woo where he achieved a black belt by the age of 13. Under the "Five Family System of Tsoi-Li-Ho-Fut-Hung," Gary became proficient in an ancient fighting art legacy founded centuries ago. Students are taught techniques that do not follow any set patterns, and must adapt to any fighting situation which makes the Art of San Soo a brutal and "no holds barred" warrior approach to self-defense.
At age 16, Gary turned to bodybuilding and began training and conditioning his body with weights. While attending Cal Poly Pomona where he received a B.A. in Sociology, Gary attended several classes in advanced weight training and physiology, absorbing all the knowledge he could learn about health, the body, and muscle building. Gary applied strength training principles and techniques to transform and condition his body through many hours of intense and rigorous workout sessions. Through the knowledge of proper health, nutritional supplementation, and natural bodybuilding, Gary was able to break through the barriers of mediocrity and achieve a warriors' success in his body transformation. A life example he seeks to share with any individual struggling with their own body image.
As the owner of Kekoa Strength Training, Gary believes in servicing clientele through the "Kekoa" warrior philosophy that embraces diverse approaches to achieving body transformation. Whether it's bodybuilding, strength training, strongman training, or martial arts, the attitude toward the approach of training has to be Kekoa!
